The best time to plan next year’s garden is while this season is still in full bloom. Join us for a hands-on workshop dedicated to reading your landscape before winter arrives. We will map true sun angles and tree canopy shifts, evaluate microclimates, and design practical layouts that seamlessly combine productive kitchen vegetables with cut flowers.
Learn how to plan efficient bed placements, integrate vertical trellising, and design simple drip irrigation systems that save time and conserve water. You will leave with the tools needed to plan a successful and fruitful 2027 garden.
This class will take place on site at my garden (Westport, near the Weston boarder) so we can see real examples on Tuesday, September 15th at 6:00pm.

A vibrant spring garden begins with the intentional steps we take in the fall. This workshop covers essential autumn soil care and bed preparation strategies to set your space up for success. We will explore sheet mulching, soil amendments, and protective winter mulches, alongside step-by-step guidance on planting garlic, shallots, and spring-flowering bulbs. You will also learn winter sowing techniques in recycled containers to start seeds outdoors during the cold months. Participants will take home a curated set of specialty bulbs ready to plant, along with a seasonal fall garden checklist.

Starting plants from seed gives you access to unique varieties, stronger plants, and a jumpstart on the growing season. This workshop demystifies indoor seed starting by breaking down the essential supplies, germination requirements, and daily care routines needed for success. We will explore soil blocking versus traditional trays, ideal heat and light setups, bottom watering techniques, and seedling management. You will leave with hands-on practice, resources for creating your own growing space, a sample of seeds (with a schedule!) to use in your own garden.
